  •  "What does it take to actually get your film into theatres? How do you attract the attention of top-level distribution executives? How do you know which festivals are right for your film? In other words, how do you get your film noticed, in a glutted indie market that seems less "indie" with every passing year? These are questions that haunt the indendent filmmaker and bring even the best projects to a grinding halt."  ~ Marc and Marla Halperin of Magic Lamp Releasing.

Picturehouse  (Folded 2008) Launched in April 2005, Think Films 2008 is being sued by advertisers and is failing to make payroll on set one production.  This company was formed primarily by veterans of Lions Gate acquisitions.

The Weinstein Company (Note TWC's failure to properly distribute such films as Dedication and Grace is Gone, two $4M acquisitions at Sundance 2007, in this article.)

The Weinstein Company is an independent American film studio founded by Harvey and Bob Weinstein in 2005 after the pair left the Disney-owned Miramax Films, which they had co-founded in 1979. The Dimension Films label of Miramax followed the brothers to their new company. Advisors to the new studio include Paul Newman and Robert Redford. (Source - Wikepedia)

Picturehouse was the joint venture of two leaders of the entertainment community - HBO and New Line Cinema.  President Bob Berney graduated from UT RTF and later formed Inwood, a marketing consulting firm which distributed the Oscar-nominated Memento film. That led Berney to start IFC Films in Los Angeles as a division of the Independent Film Channel. IFC distributed My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which has grossed $241 million, and Y Tu Mama Tambien.  Later, as president, Newmarket Films, Berney bought Whale Rider for $1 million, and it earned $21 million. Newmarket Films distributed Monster, which earned $34 million, and then took on the distribution of the controversial The Passion of The Christ, which has grossed a whopping $370 million so far.
